Our repair department is the busiest part of the store — and most of that work happens right here at our own bench in Modesto.

The Process

What to Expect

No surprises. You will know what the repair involves and what it costs before we touch the piece.

1

Bring It In

Stop by during business hours. We look at the piece with you at the counter and talk through what it needs.

2

You Get an Estimate

We quote the repair before anything starts. If it is not worth fixing, we will tell you that instead of taking the job.

3

We Do the Work

Most repairs are completed at our own bench here in the store, by the same jeweler who quoted it.

4

We Call You

When it is finished and inspected, we call. Your piece is cleaned and ready for pickup.

—

If Anything Changes

If we find additional damage once work begins, we stop and call you before going further. No surprise charges.

Turnaround depends on the repair and our bench schedule. We will give you a realistic timeline when you drop off — and call you if anything changes.

Out of the Area

Not Local? Mail It In.

We are more than happy to take repairs from outside the area — including longtime customers who have since moved away. Here is exactly how it works.

01

Call or Email First

Before you ship anything, let us know a package is on its way and what is going on with the piece. This way we are expecting it and know what we are looking at the moment it arrives.

02

Ship It Insured

Create a label to our store addressed to Gabriel's. Use UPS or FedEx, overnight or two-day, to limit time in transit — and insure the package for what the piece is worth. Not sure what that number is? Call us and we will help you figure it out.

03

We Confirm & Assess

We will let you know as soon as your item arrives. Give us a maximum of one business day to assess what is going on, then we will get back to you with an estimate.

04

You Approve, We Repair

If you would like to move forward, we will start the repair.

05

Payment & Return

We call to take payment over the phone for the repair and the return shipping label, then send your piece back to you.

Before You Ship

How to Send It Safely

The less time your piece spends in transit, the better. A few things that matter:

  • Use UPS or FedEx: overnight or two-day service
  • Insure the package for the full value of the piece
  • Not sure what it is worth? Call us and we will help you land on a number
  • Pack it snugly in a small box so nothing shifts in transit

Never ship a piece without calling or emailing us first. A package that arrives unannounced sits unidentified, and we want your repair logged and looked at the day it arrives.

Good to Know

Common Questions

Still have questions about a repair? Give us a call or bring the piece by.

Do you repair jewelry I didn't buy from you?
Yes, always. Most of what crosses our bench was bought somewhere else, including inherited and antique pieces. Bring it in and we will take a look.
How much will my repair cost?
It depends entirely on the piece and what it needs — a simple sizing is very different from rebuilding several prongs or matching a missing stone. We quote every repair after examining it, before any work begins, so you are never surprised.
How long does a repair take?
Turnaround depends on the repair and our current bench schedule. Simple work often moves quickly; stone matching or complex restoration takes longer. We give you a realistic timeline at drop-off and call you if anything changes.
I moved away. Can you still do my repair?
Absolutely — we hear this a lot, and we are more than happy to keep taking care of customers who have moved. Call or email us first so we know your package is coming, then ship it insured by UPS or FedEx. The full process is laid out in the mail-in section above.
How much should I insure my package for?
For the full replacement value of the piece. If you are not sure what that is, call us before you ship — we will help you land on an appropriate number based on what you are sending.
Can you match a stone that fell out?
In most cases, yes. Bring in or send the piece and we will identify what is missing and source a match for the size, cut, and color. If you still have the original stone, even better — bring that too.
Will resizing damage my ring?
Done properly, no. Some designs resize more easily than others — eternity bands, tension settings, and certain patterned shanks have real limits. We will tell you upfront if your ring is one of them and what the options are.
Do you do watch repairs too?
Standard watch batteries are done here in the store, usually while you wait. More involved watch repairs go to specialist watchmakers we have worked with for years.

Jewelry Repair in Modesto, California

Gabriel Fine Jewelers has been repairing jewelry for Modesto and the surrounding Central Valley since 1994. Our repair department handles ring resizing, chain and bracelet soldering, prong retipping, stone tightening and resetting, replacing missing diamonds and gemstones, clasp replacement, rhodium plating for white gold, and hand polishing — on gold, platinum, and sterling silver. Most of this work is completed in house at our own bench, which means shorter turnaround and a jeweler you can actually talk to about your piece.

Every repair starts the same way: we look at the piece with you, explain what it needs, and quote it before any work begins. If a repair is not worth the cost, or if the piece would be better served by a different approach, we will say so. Nothing is started without your approval.

We also accept mail-in jewelry repairs from outside the Modesto area, including longtime customers who have moved away. Call or email us first so we know your package is coming, ship it insured by UPS or FedEx, and we will confirm receipt, assess it within one business day, and send you an estimate before starting. Local customers come to us from Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Riverbank, Oakdale, Ripon, Manteca, and Salida.

Repair estimates are provided after the piece has been examined and may change if additional damage is found once work begins — we will always contact you before proceeding. Customers are responsible for shipping and insuring items sent to us, and for the declared value on the shipment. Turnaround times are estimates and vary with the repair and parts availability.
