Custom jewelry pricing depends on three things: the center stone, the metal, and the labor the design requires. Most custom pieces we make in Modesto fall between $1,500 and $6,000, while custom engagement rings typically range from $2,500 to $15,000 depending on the center diamond. We give you a firm quote before any work begins, and we will tell you honestly if a design can be simplified to fit your budget without compromising how it wears.

Not always, and often it is less. A ring from a national chain includes advertising, corporate overhead, and the cost of holding inventory. Because we design and build in-house, you are paying for materials and craftsmanship rather than markup. Custom also lets you control cost in ways retail cannot — adjusting stone size, metal choice, or setting detail, or using gold and stones you already own to offset the price.

Most custom projects take four to eight weeks from approved design to finished piece. Simple stone resets can move faster; elaborate settings, hand engraving, or special-order stones take longer. If you are working toward a proposal, anniversary, or holiday, tell us the date at your first consultation and we will build the schedule backward from it so nothing is rushed at the bench.

Yes, and it is some of our favorite work. Diamonds are the most durable part of any piece of jewelry, so an heirloom stone can almost always move into a new setting even when the original mounting is worn beyond repair. We inspect the stone first for chips and wear, show you what it will look like reset, and only then remove it. There is no extra charge for using a stone you already own.

Yes. Inherited gold can be refined and used toward your new piece, or credited against the cost of the project. We refine rather than melt directly, because old alloys and past repairs can introduce porosity and weak points that shorten the life of the finished piece. You get the value of the metal either way, and the new piece is structurally sound.

No. Most people arrive with a screenshot, a vague idea, or nothing but a feeling about what they want. That is enough to start. Bring inspiration photos if you have them — even images of pieces you dislike are useful, because they tell us where your taste ends. Our job is to translate what you describe into something buildable.

Yes. We build every custom piece in CAD and give you a photorealistic 3D rendering to review before anything is cast. You see the design from every angle at actual scale, and we revise it as many times as it takes. Nothing goes into metal until you have approved the final rendering, so there are no surprises when you see the finished piece.

Yes. Combining stones from multiple family pieces into a single design is one of the most meaningful projects we take on — a grandmother's diamond and a mother's band in one ring, or scattered stones from several inherited pieces set into one cluster. We can also work in reverse, dividing a single heirloom into matching pieces so several family members each have something to wear.

Most families find the opposite is true. A ring worn every day keeps a memory alive in a way a ring in a drawer cannot. That said, redesign is permanent, so it is worth sitting with the decision and talking to whoever the piece came through before you commit. We can often preserve part of the original — an engraving, a section of the band, the setting's silhouette — so the new piece carries a visible trace of the old one.

Both, and the choice is yours. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to mined stones and cost significantly less, which often means a larger or higher-quality center stone for the same budget. Natural diamonds hold value differently and carry a geological history some clients want. We will walk you through the tradeoffs with actual stones in front of you rather than talking in the abstract.
